SS13 Channeling And Spell Burst
SS13 changes channeling maximum, overflowed channeling minimum, Deep Channeling, and Spell Burst consumption rules.
This site focuses on system understanding and decision support; for season, build, or budget-sensitive advice, check the page date and current version context.
Old Spell Burst and channeling builds need trigger checks
SS13 changes more than numbers for channeling and Spell Burst. The important part is trigger wording: many lines change from "activating Spell Burst" to "consuming Spell Burst," some +1 maximum Spell Burst stacks lines become extra hit damage for skills released by Spell Burst, and channeling starts caring about maximum stacks, overflowed minimum stacks, and payoffs after reaching maximum.
These changes can directly affect old builds. A trigger that used to work may now require actual stack consumption. At season start, do not only ask how much a skill was buffed. Check the trigger wording line by line, or the real build may lose a whole payoff segment despite looking fine on paper.
Spell Burst has three checks
| Question | How to judge |
|---|---|
| Is maximum valuable? | Does maximum become Terra Charge, Crimson Shade count, extra releases, or damage? |
| Is Spell Burst actually consumed? | If the line says "consume Spell Burst," does the main skill consume stacks? |
| Which damage segment benefits? | Torrent, comet, area hit, lightning strike, or another segment? |
If a line only improves hit damage from skills released by Spell Burst, and your main damage comes from DoT, reap, or non-hit segments, you cannot copy the value directly.
The practical approach is to identify the main output segment first, then decide whether Spell Burst is core investment. If hit segments benefit fully, Spell Burst maximum and consumption are worth chasing. If the build mainly uses DoT, reap, or minions, Spell Burst affixes may only be support value and should not cost you skill levels, more damage, or basic survival.
Why Terra Skills care about Spell Burst
Some new Terra Skill supports consume all Spell Burst stacks at maximum and add damage per stack to this torrent, area damage, comet, fire projectile, or lightning strike. Selena's traits also make Spell Burst maximum affect Terra Charge maximum and Crimson Shade count.
That means SS13 Spell Burst is not only for traditional spell builds. Terra Skills also need to judge Spell Burst maximum and consumption payoff.
Channeling maximum and minimum are different
Channeling changes include several pieces that are easy to mix together:
- New support Deep Channeling gives supported skills
+2 maximum channeling stacksand extra damage. - Some new legendary directions give extra damage per overflowed minimum channeling stack.
- Overflowing minimum channeling stacks by enough may also grant ailment immunity payoffs.
- An older Elementalist
+1 maximum channeling stacksline now gives extra damage after channeling reaches maximum.
Maximum, minimum, overflow, and reaching maximum are not the same thing. Before investing, check whether your skill can reach maximum reliably, then whether you can push minimum stacks into overflow.
The league-start danger for channeling builds is high paper value with bad standing time, movement speed, or survival. Activation Medium: Entanglement now also has a movement speed penalty. Routes that used to rely on smooth movement and automation should re-check map speed and boss windows. Clearable does not mean comfortable, and slow farming directly affects profit.
Old build checklist
If you have an old Spell Burst or channeling build, check in this order:
- Did the old line trigger on activation or consumption?
- Does the main skill now actually consume Spell Burst stacks?
- Does the payoff affect hit damage or all damage?
- Does channeling maximum still give direct value?
- Is there overflowed channeling minimum payoff, and can you sustain it?
- Did the change cost defense, recovery, or loop smoothness?
- Do Activation Medium, Entanglement, or new supports add movement speed penalties that lower farming efficiency?
If these conditions are not met, the old build may still work, but you cannot value it with the old model.
The safer season-start method is to keep one old setup that can push difficulty, then add new Spell Burst or channeling value gradually. Do not change the main skill, trigger model, and survival layer all at once while stuck at the K7-K8 gate. Too many variables make the real problem hard to diagnose.
